Israeli Army Confirms Death of Elite Golani Officer in Southern Gaza Battle

Resistance factions claim coordinated attacks on Israeli forces in Khan Younis and Jabalia as part of ongoing response to Israel’s war on Gaza.

Watan-The Israeli army announced on Monday evening the death of a deputy company commander in the elite Golani Brigade during a battle in the southern Gaza Strip.

In a statement, the army said:”Reserve Major Tal Mofshovitz (28), deputy company commander in Engineering Battalion 7086 of the Golani Brigade, was killed in battle in southern Gaza.”

According to the Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, the Israeli officer was killed by an improvised explosive device (IED) that detonated inside a building in Khan Younis.

Al-Qassam and Islamic Jihad Strike Israeli Forces in Gaza Amid Ongoing War

Earlier Monday, the Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, announced a series of operations targeting Israeli military vehicles and forces in the northern and southern Gaza Strip, resulting in Israeli deaths and injuries.
In a statement, the brigades said:”Al-Qassam fighters, in coordination with the Islamic Jihad’s Al-Quds Brigades, targeted a Zionist foot patrol that had taken shelter inside a house east of Khan Younis with an anti-personnel explosive, killing and wounding several of them.”

In a second statement, Al-Qassam said its fighters successfully sniped an Israeli soldier at the same location.
In a later statement, the group added:”On June 10, our fighters returned from the frontlines confirming they had targeted an Israeli armored personnel carrier and a Merkava tank with a high-powered landmine and martyrdom device east of Jabalia, in northern Gaza.”
They also stated that on June 11, a Merkava tank was struck with a powerful IED in the same area.

These operations come as part of the broader response by Palestinian factions to what they describe as Israel’s ongoing genocide against Gaza, backed by the United States, since October 7, 2023. The campaign involves mass killing, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement, in defiance of international pleas and ICJ rulings demanding a halt.
According to the latest reports, the war has resulted in over 184,000 Palestinian martyrs and wounded, most of them children and women, with over 11,000 missing, hundreds of thousands displaced, and a famine that has claimed the lives of many, including children.
