Egyptian Socialist Party Urges Cairo to Welcome Gaza Solidarity Convoy
Popular Alliance Warns Against Blocking Pro-Palestinian Delegations, Calls It a Major Diplomatic Mistake.
Watan-The Popular Socialist Alliance Party has called on the Egyptian government to allow the “Steadfastness Convoy” to enter Egypt, warning against reported calls to block their entry under what it described as “corrupt pretexts.” The party stressed that any such move by the Egyptian authorities would be a grave mistake and a disastrous blow to Egypt’s reputation among Arabs and the wider world.
In a statement, the party expressed appreciation for the global surge in solidarity with Gaza and the international condemnation of Israel’s U.S.-backed genocidal war, as well as the complicity or silence of many Arab regimes.
The party highlighted the significance of widespread daily protests in European capitals—London, Paris, Madrid, Berlin, and others—which mark a major shift in global public opinion regarding the fascist and racist nature of the Zionist entity. These protests are applying growing pressure on Western governments to change their policies and could lead to a broader transformation to end the apartheid state of Israel, similar to the fall of apartheid in South Africa.
It praised the recent wave of global grassroots solidarity, citing three key mobilizations:
-
The “Freedom Ship Madeleine”
-
The “March to Gaza,” which is expected to bring thousands of Europeans to Cairo
-
The “Steadfastness Convoy,” which departed from Tunisia with wide Maghreb participation and is currently en route to Egypt’s border via Libya
The party emphasized that it welcomes all Arab and international activists arriving in Egypt in support of Palestine—coordinated with Egyptian authorities and for peaceful, supportive purposes only.
It stressed that Egypt’s governing authorities must cooperate with these solidarity efforts to show the world that Egyptians stand in support of Palestine—an act that would bolster both the Palestinian cause and Egypt’s rightful regional position.
The statement concluded by calling on the Egyptian people to publicly welcome these freedom supporters and urged political and national forces to declare this week a Global Week of Solidarity with Palestine, with widespread grassroots events and initiatives
