UK to Sanction Far-Right Israeli Ministers Ben Gvir and Smotrich over Gaza War
Britain joins Canada, Australia, and others in freezing assets and banning travel for two Israeli ministers over their roles in the Gaza war.
Watan-The Times reported on Tuesday that the United Kingdom and several other international allies plan to impose formal sanctions on two far-right Israeli ministers, Itamar Ben Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich, due to their conduct and roles in the ongoing war in Gaza.
The sanctions package includes freezing their financial assets and enforcing a travel ban, effective as of Tuesday. Britain joins a growing list of countries—including Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and others—that have taken punitive measures against the two controversial Israeli cabinet members.
In response, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar called the British decision “outrageous” and stated that the Israeli government will convene next week to determine how to respond to what he described as an unacceptable move.
