Algerian Army Vows Relentless Modernization to Safeguard National Sovereignty
Defense Ministry outlines strategic reforms amid regional instability, highlighting military readiness, technological upgrades, and regional diplomacy.
Watan-Algeria’s Ministry of Defense affirmed that it continues “relentlessly to develop and strengthen its defense capabilities and build a strong and respected army,” stating that in recent years, Algeria has made “significant strides in modernizing all components of its armed forces, ensuring it remains a protective shield for the nation and a guarantor of its unity, sovereignty, and independence.”
In the June edition of El Djeich, the official magazine of the Algerian military, the editorial emphasized that this development-oriented approach stems from Algeria’s “awareness of the current and future challenges it must face in a world full of turmoil and rivalries, amid international and regional tensions marked by instability.” The article underlined Algeria’s understanding that “a nation’s strength is closely tied to the strength of its army.”
The editorial stressed that Algeria’s armed forces have now reached “the threshold of modernity, advancement, and operational efficiency.” This, it said, is “a result of the strategic foresight of the army’s high command and the tireless efforts of all its members—efforts spanning multiple levels and domains such as training, equipping with state-of-the-art weaponry and technology, mastering complex and precise military technologies, and conducting continuous combat preparation and training.”
The magazine also highlighted Algeria’s active diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring political and security stability in its increasingly volatile regional environment. These efforts align with Algeria’s core principles of good neighborliness, non-intervention in other countries’ internal affairs, and respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity. It reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to peaceful conflict resolution, prioritizing dialogue and negotiations over the use of force.
Additionally, the editorial noted that Algeria’s comprehensive regional approach includes an economic dimension, through efforts to boost development in its surrounding regions. This includes providing humanitarian aid and funding regionally impactful development projects—moves aimed at undermining schemes that threaten the security and stability of the region.
