UN Security Council Session Condemns Gaza War: Powerful Testimonies and Urgent Calls to Save the Two-State Solution

UN Envoy and U.S. Doctor Reveal Humanitarian Collapse in Gaza, Urge Immediate Political Action and End to Israeli Attacks.

Watan-The UN Security Council held its monthly session focused on the situation in the Middle East, with powerful interventions from UN Middle East Peace Envoy Sigrid Kaag and U.S. pediatric trauma specialist Dr. Feroz Sidhwa.

Kaag’s Remarks:Kaag declared that sustainable peace in the Middle East is impossible without resolving the Israeli-Palestinian war, warning that the two-state solution is on “life support” and needs bold political action to revive. She emphasized the urgency of the upcoming France-Saudi-led international conference in June, calling it a pivotal moment to end the occupation and establish a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Kaag painted a dire picture of Gaza: relentless civilian bombardment, looming famine, and severe aid restrictions. She criticized Israel for its insufficient aid measures and called for an immediate ceasefire, end to forced displacement, and support for a unified Palestinian government capable of governing Gaza and the West Bank.

Testimonies of Horror: Gaza’s Collapse Through Medical and Diplomatic Eyes

Dr. Feroz Sidhwa’s Testimony:Pediatrician and trauma specialist Dr. Sidhwa, who volunteered twice in Gaza, recounted heartbreaking experiences. He performed surgeries without anesthesia, saw children shot in the head or chest, and described systemic destruction of Gaza’s healthcare. “This is not a natural disaster. It is man-made. Refusing genocide starts by refusing to normalize the killing of Palestinians,” he said.

He noted that in one morning alone (March 18, 2025), his team received 220 trauma victims and 90 corpses—half were children. He cited a NYT survey where 83% of doctors who served in Gaza reported treating children shot deliberately.

Algerian Ambassador’s Intervention:Ambassador Ammar Ben Jamaa presented photos and names of Dr. Alaa Al-Najjar’s nine children killed in an Israeli strike, describing the attack as intentional and emblematic of the war’s toll on children. He criticized the global silence and urged the world to move from condemnation to action.

Palestinian Ambassador Riyad Mansour: Mansour thanked Dr. Sidhwa, condemned Israel’s “civilization versus barbarism” narrative, and accused Israel of using starvation and aid manipulation as weapons of war to enforce ethnic cleansing in Gaza. He exposed the intent to forcibly displace Palestinians under the guise of “voluntary migration,” calling Netanyahu’s plan for a “sterile zone” in southern Gaza an ethnic cleansing policy.

Mansour’s Appeal: Act Now to Save Palestine and Peace

Mansour called for immediate international action:

  • End the genocide

  • Lift the siege

  • Stop the illegal occupation

  • Recognize Palestinian statehood as a legal right

He concluded:

“Let us not be the generation that let the two-state solution die, but the one that chose courage over caution, justice over apathy, and peace over politics.”
