Israeli Army Fires Warning Shots at Foreign Diplomatic Delegation in Jenin

Amid rising tensions in the West Bank, Israeli forces confronted a foreign diplomatic convoy, prompting global condemnation and calls for accountability.

Watan-On Wednesday, the Israeli occupation army expressed regret after its soldiers fired warning shots during the entry of a foreign diplomatic delegation into Jenin refugee camp in the northern occupied West Bank, claiming the delegation “strayed from its designated route.”

In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), the Israeli army said:”Earlier today, a diplomatic delegation coordinator entered Jenin. During coordination, the delegation was provided a pre-approved route due to the active combat zone in the area.”

According to the statement, “initial investigations indicated that the delegation deviated from this route and entered a restricted zone. An Israeli military unit stationed there fired warning shots. No damage or injuries occurred.”The army added:”After realizing the group was a diplomatic delegation, West Bank Division Commander Brigadier General Yaki Dolf immediately launched an investigation.

Civil Administration head Brigadier General Hisham Ibrahim instructed officers to communicate directly with representatives of the involved countries and will soon hold personal discussions with the diplomats to share preliminary findings.”

The army also expressed regret for the “inconvenience” caused.

Separately, Israeli Army Radio quoted security sources saying, “the delegation strayed off course in Jenin, and the soldiers were unaware they were diplomats, so they fired into the air,” as claimed.

The sources added that “the Israeli army will apologize to the countries represented in the delegation, including Spain and Canada.”

Earlier that day, a Palestinian Foreign Ministry official stated that the Israeli army had fired intensively “to intimidate and terrify” a visiting foreign diplomatic delegation as it arrived at one of the entrances to Jenin refugee camp.

Ahmed al-Deek, Assistant to the Palestinian Foreign Minister, said:”The Israeli occupation forces violated diplomatic norms by opening live fire as a group of 35 ambassadors, consuls, and diplomats (nationalities undisclosed) arrived at the camp.”

International Outrage as Israel Escalates Military Campaign in West Bank and Gaza

The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs had organized the visit for the diplomats to witness the ongoing Israeli assault on Jenin, following a similar trip to Tulkarm the previous week.
European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas condemned the incident, stating on Wednesday that “any threat to diplomats’ lives is unacceptable.”
She told reporters in Brussels: “We call on Israel to investigate this incident and demand accountability.”
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani also criticized the Israeli army’s actions, calling the warning shots against diplomats “unacceptable threats.”
He posted on X: “We demand immediate clarification from the Israeli government. Threats against diplomats are unacceptable.”

Since January 21, 2025, the Israeli army has launched a military campaign in the northern West Bank, beginning with Jenin and surrounding areas before expanding to Tulkarm on January 27.

According to the official Palestinian news agency, the ongoing Israeli assault on Tulkarm and its two camps (Tulkarm and Nur Shams) has resulted in 13 Palestinian deaths, dozens injured and arrested, and the displacement of more than 4,200 families.

Additionally, the aggression has completely destroyed 400 homes, partially damaged 2,573 others, and caused widespread destruction to infrastructure and commercial properties.

Alongside its genocidal war in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli military and settlers have intensified attacks in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, leading to the killing of at least 969 Palestinians, injuring around 7,000, and arresting over 17,000, according to Palestinian data.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel—backed unconditionally by the U.S.—has waged a genocidal war on Gaza, resulting in over 175,000 Palestinian casualties (dead and wounded), most of them women and children, in addition to more than 11,000 missing and hundreds of thousands forcibly displaced.
