US Denies Gaza Relocation Plan to Libya, Says It Explored Voluntary Options with Regional States

Secretary of State Marco Rubio Clarifies U.S. Position on Potential Voluntary Departures from Gaza Amid Ongoing War.

Watan-U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Tuesday that the United States has not discussed relocating Palestinians from Gaza to Libya. However, he clarified that Washington has reached out to several regional countries to gauge their willingness to temporarily host Palestinians from Gaza who express a voluntary desire to leave.

Rubio added:“What we’ve discussed with some countries is the following: If someone voluntarily expresses a desire to go somewhere else for a period of time—whether due to illness, or because their children need to attend school, or something similar—are there countries in the region willing to receive them temporarily?”

He noted that, to his knowledge, Libya was not among the countries involved in these discussions.
