Digital Storm After Trump-Sharaa Meeting: Israeli-Iranian Online Campaign Targets New Syrian President
Following Trump’s Surprise Pledge to Lift Sanctions, Syrian Leader Faces Coordinated Online Attacks from Unlikely Alliance.
Watan-Following the surprise meeting between Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa and U.S. President Donald Trump in Riyadh, an intense online campaign has erupted directly targeting Sharaa. According to the digital analysis platform “Eekad,” the campaign is being led by an unusual coalition of accounts linked to both Israel and Iran.
The campaign began just 48 hours after the controversial meeting, which stirred wide regional and international debate—particularly after Trump announced the U.S. administration’s intention to lift sanctions on Damascus without prior coordination with Tel Aviv. This move triggered tension within Israeli political circles.
Eekad documented over 15,000 posts in just two days, shared across around 9,300 accounts and reaching an estimated audience of over 161 million views. The campaign accused Sharaa of normalizing ties with Israel and making alleged concessions on land and oil issues, while casting doubt on the sincerity of the emerging U.S.-Syrian alliance.
Prominent posts came from figures known for supporting Israeli policies and others close to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard. They used terms like “sellout,” “submissive,” and “normalization for survival,” aiming to incite Arab public opinion against the new Syrian leadership.
The Trump-Sharaa meeting did not go unnoticed in Israel. Hebrew media confirmed that Tel Aviv was not consulted about Washington’s decision to recognize the new Syrian government, amid reports of internal Israeli disagreements on how to handle Sharaa.
Meanwhile, Damascus has issued no official response to the campaign, as questions continue to circulate about who stands to benefit from this coordinated, high-volume targeting of President Sharaa.
