UAE Pressures Palestinian Education Reform to Align with Israeli Narrative

Under the guise of tolerance and coexistence, the UAE pushes for curriculum changes in Palestine that critics warn could erase national identity and serve Israeli interests.

Watan-As part of what is described as “reform” efforts in Palestinian territories, diplomatic sources have revealed a clear Emirati insistence on imposing drastic changes to the Palestinian education system under the pretext of combating “hate speech” and “incitement against Israel.”

Although marketed with appealing terms like “tolerance” and “coexistence,” the essence of this initiative reflects a dangerous project aimed at dismantling Palestinian national identity—one that closely aligns with the Israeli occupation’s agenda.

Since the signing of the Abraham Accords in 2020, the UAE’s role has gone beyond traditional normalization, evolving into a strategic partnership with Israel in areas including security, economics, and media. It now appears this role extends into shaping internal Palestinian realities—specifically through direct influence over education, a cornerstone of national identity.

Abu Dhabi and Israel cooperations

What the UAE is pushing for is not merely an educational reform, but a reprogramming of Palestinian consciousness to fit a narrative aligned with Zionist ideology.

Informed sources confirm that Abu Dhabi is pressuring international donors to tie future aid to the removal of what it calls “inciting content” in Palestinian curricula—particularly content referencing the Nakba, occupation, refugees’ rights, or even the legitimate right to resist occupation.

From Normalization to Liquidation

This approach echoes long-standing Israeli policies aimed at erasing the Palestinian narrative and replacing it with the concept of “economic peace” in place of historical and political rights. The UAE is not merely echoing Israeli rhetoric—it is actively implementing Israel’s agenda through soft-power mechanisms.

In this context, the UAE is promoting a “modern” educational model in the West Bank, similar to one it sponsors in East Jerusalem schools via affiliated institutions.

This model deliberately omits terms like “occupation,” “resistance,” and “liberation,” replacing them with themes like entrepreneurship and innovation—an attempt to disconnect Palestinian youth from the roots of their struggle.

Engineering Consciousness Through Conditional Aid

This is not the first time that aid has been used as political blackmail, but what’s new is that Abu Dhabi now plays this role on behalf of Israel. Leveraging its financial clout, the UAE is exerting pressure on the financially-strapped Palestinian Authority.

It aims to exploit this crisis to enforce its agenda under the guise of “developing” education according to “international standards”—standards that, in reality, strip the curriculum of its national content.

This includes pressuring for Emirati institutional involvement in rewriting curricula and training teachers under a “neutral” approach to the occupation.

Long-Term Threats to Palestinian Future

The danger of this initiative lies not only in its content, but in its broader political context. The Emirati intervention in Palestinian education is part of a wider strategy to fragment the Palestinian cause into service-based issues detached from their political essence.

It aligns with Israel’s long-term vision of bypassing Palestinian national rights through educational and economic projects that normalize the occupation.

In essence, the UAE seeks to reshape Palestinian awareness so that future generations become more accepting of occupation and less connected to their historical narrative.

This is no less dangerous than settlement expansion or the Judaization of Jerusalem—perhaps even more so, given its strategic long-term impact.

Covert Collusion in Colonial Packaging

Despite public messaging about “peace” and “tolerance,” the UAE’s true role is increasingly exposed as part of a regional agenda to erase the Palestinian cause under shiny, deceptive slogans.

What began as state-level normalization is morphing into a project of social and cultural engineering that threatens to hollow out Palestinian identity.

Education is not a secondary battlefield—it is central to the struggle over memory and consciousness. When that system is subjected to political blackmail by actors who claim neutrality while implementing the occupation’s script, the threat becomes existential.

What we are witnessing today—Emirati pressure on Palestinian education—is part of a larger war on memory and identity. Through its alignment with Israeli policies, the UAE is playing a destructive role that is inseparable from the broader effort to liquidate the Palestinian cause.
