Trump Urges Syrian President to Sign Abraham Accords and Take Responsibility for ISIS Detention Centers

Watan-A White House spokesperson stated that U.S. President Donald Trump has urged Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa, on Wednesday, to sign the Abraham Accords with Israel. This came a day after the U.S. unexpectedly announced it would lift all sanctions on the Islamist-led Syrian government.
Trump also called on Al-Sharaa to “expel Palestinian terrorists,” according to the White House.
This occurred during a meeting between the U.S. president and the transitional Syrian president in Riyadh, as reported by a White House official.
Trump Urges Syrian President to Manage ISIS Detention Centers During Gulf Summit Preparations
The official added that the two leaders met ahead of a larger summit for Gulf leaders in Saudi Arabia during Trump’s regional tour.
During the meeting, Trump asked Al-Shara to “take responsibility” for the ISIS detention centers in northeastern Syria.
A statement from the White House said, “President Trump encouraged President Al-Sharaa to do a great job for the Syrian people, urging him to take responsibility for the ISIS detention centers in northeastern Syria,” which hold thousands of ISIS fighters and their families. ISIS controlled vast areas of Iraq and Syria years ago.
Trump is currently on a four-day visit to oil-rich Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE.
Diplomatic sources revealed that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan participated via video conference in a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, Syrian President Ahmed Al-Shara, and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Erdoğan Reaffirms Turkey’s Support for Syria, Urges Stability and Investment After U.S. Sanctions Lifted
The sources noted that during the meeting, Erdoğan emphasized Turkey’s continued support for Damascus in its fight against terrorist groups, particularly ISIS.
Erdoğan confirmed Turkey’s readiness to assist in managing and securing the detention centers where ISIS fighters are held.
He also expressed Turkey’s desire to see Syria as a stable, prosperous country working with its neighbors without posing a threat.
Erdoğan pointed out that Trump’s decision to lift sanctions on Syria is historically significant and would serve as an example to other countries that imposed sanctions on Damascus.

He emphasized that investment opportunities would open up across various sectors in Syria following the lifting of sanctions.
On the Palestinian issue, Erdoğan affirmed Turkey’s continued efforts to stop the cycle of violence in Gaza, stressing that the time has come to end the humanitarian crisis in the region.
He also stated that it would be useful for leaders to begin peace talks and ceasefire negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, with Turkey continuing its efforts for peace.
