Israeli Minister Calls for Destruction of Palestinian Villages Following Settler’s Death

Finance Minister Smotrich advocates for the destruction of two West Bank villages after a fatal shooting, invoking past military actions in Gaza.

Watan-Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich called for the destruction of the Palestinian villages of Broqin and Kafr Deek in the northern West Bank, “like Shujaiya and Tel Sultan in Gaza,” following the killing of an Israeli settler in a shooting, according to a tweet on X.

Smotrich, leader of the far-right “Religious Zionism” party, said, “Just like we destroyed Rafah, Khan Yunis, and Gaza, we must destroy” what he claimed are “terrorist nests in Judea and Samaria” (the biblical term for the West Bank).

He added, “Broqen and Kafr Deek should look like Shujaiya and Tel Sultan.”

The Israeli settler died from gunshot wounds sustained in a shooting on her car in the occupied West Bank on Wednesday. Doctors managed to save her fetus through a cesarean operation, according to a statement from the Beilinson Hospital in Tel Aviv on Thursday.

The hospital said in a statement: “After the medical team made every effort to save the woman critically injured in the shooting, her death was announced. A cesarean section was performed to save her fetus.”

Since the outbreak of the war in Gaza, following the unprecedented Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, Israeli attacks in the occupied West Bank, which has been under Israeli control since 1967, have significantly increased.
