Dozens of U.S. Democrats Urge Israel to Resume Humanitarian Aid to Gaza

Lawmakers condemn the ongoing blockade as “immoral” and contrary to shared democratic values, citing severe humanitarian deterioration since March.

Watan-Dozens of Democratic members of the U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday called on the Israeli government to resume the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.

In a letter addressed to Israeli Ambassador to the United States Michael Herzog, the group wrote:“As strong supporters of the U.S.-Israel relationship, we write to express our opposition to the current Israeli government policy of blocking all humanitarian aid from entering Gaza.”

The letter continued:“We are deeply concerned and profoundly saddened by this blockade, which began on March 2 and has contributed to some of the worst humanitarian conditions in Gaza since October 2023. This policy is immoral and inconsistent with the democratic values our nations share.”

The letter was spearheaded by Representatives Salud Carbajal and Ami Bera of California, and was also signed by Democratic lawmakers Mark Pocan (Wisconsin), Pramila Jayapal (Washington), James Clyburn (South Carolina), Maxwell Frost (Florida), and many others.

According to recent reports from United Nations agencies, no aid has entered Gaza for more than two months due to Israel’s ongoing blockade of the territory.
