Trump: U.S. to Halt Strikes on Houthis After Shipping Attacks Cease
Yemeni Houthis Agree to Stop Disrupting Key Maritime Routes, Trump Announces End to Bombing Campaign.

Watan-U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that the United States will stop bombing Houthi targets in Yemen, following the Yemeni movement’s announcement that it would no longer disrupt vital shipping routes in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
Speaking alongside Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in the Oval Office, Trump stated:“The Houthis announced (…) that they no longer want to fight. They simply don’t want to fight anymore. And we will honor that. We will stop the bombing—they’ve surrendered.”
The announcement comes after months of intensified U.S. military operations in Yemen, particularly following Houthi attacks on commercial and military vessels linked to Israel, the U.S., and the UK in response to the Gaza war. Since mid-December 2023, the U.S. has carried out hundreds of airstrikes on Houthi positions across northern Yemen, including the capital Sana’a, the port city of Hodeidah, and the Saada governorate—resulting in civilian casualties and widespread infrastructure damage.

Rights organizations and UN agencies have condemned the U.S.-led bombing campaign for exacerbating Yemen’s already dire humanitarian crisis, warning that the strikes may constitute violations of international law.
While the Houthis say their maritime operations were aimed at pressuring Israel during its war in Gaza, Washington framed its campaign as a measure to “secure global trade.” Trump’s announcement marks a sharp turn toward de-escalation, though skepticism remains about whether hostilities will truly end or simply pause.
