Qatar: Ceasefire Mediation in Gaza Ongoing Despite Israeli Obstacles
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Majed Al-Ansari affirms continued Qatar-Egypt-U.S. mediation amid Israeli refusal to proceed with truce
Watan-Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al-Ansari stated on Tuesday that mediation efforts aimed at securing a ceasefire in Gaza between Hamas and Israel are “ongoing despite the difficulty of the situation.”
Speaking at a press conference broadcast by Qatar’s Al Jazeera, Al-Ansari addressed the stalled negotiations to resume the ceasefire agreement that collapsed on March 18 after Israel withdrew from it and refused to implement the second phase.
Al-Ansari did not provide specific details about the mediation efforts but clarified that “Qatar, Egypt, and the United States are focusing their mediation on ending the catastrophic war in Gaza.”
He noted that “previous mediation efforts led to the release of more hostages than was achieved through the military operations carried out by Tel Aviv in the Gaza Strip.”
The spokesman strongly rejected “the use of humanitarian aid in Gaza as a bargaining chip or negotiation tool” by Israel, which he accused of starving Palestinians in the Strip.
He stressed, “Israel’s policy of weaponizing aid to Gaza must be stopped,” and called for “international pressure to find solutions for delivering aid into the Strip.”
