Trump Administration Offers $1,000 to Undocumented Migrants for Voluntary Return
New Program Includes Travel Aid and Reduced Detention Priority to Encourage Self-Deportation of Unauthorized Immigrants
Watan-President Donald Trump’s administration announced it will offer $1,000 payments to undocumented migrants in the United States who voluntarily return to their home countries, as part of its ongoing mass deportation strategy.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said Monday it would also cover travel-related costs. Individuals who use the “CBP One” app to inform the government of their intent to leave will be lowered in detention and removal priority by immigration enforcement officers.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem stated:“If you are here illegally, voluntary departure is the safest and most cost-effective way to leave the U.S. and avoid detention. DHS is now offering financial assistance and a $1,000 grant to help undocumented migrants return home through the CBP One app.”
Immigration enforcement has been a cornerstone of Trump’s campaign, but the process is resource-intensive and costly.
While the Republican administration pushes Congress to allocate significantly more funds to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for removals, it is also pressuring undocumented migrants to choose voluntary departure as a cheaper and faster alternative.
