Israel Launches Major Airstrikes Across Syria Amid Rising Tensions with Turkey
More than 10 Israeli airstrikes hit key military sites in Damascus, Hama, and Homs as fears grow of a direct confrontation with Turkey over regional influence.
Watan-Syria has witnessed a serious escalation after more than 10 Israeli airstrikes targeted strategic sites in Damascus, Hama, and the Homs countryside. The bombing hit the Hama Military Airport and the well-known T4 Airbase in the Homs countryside, in addition to other vital locations, resulting in material damage and casualties, according to local media sources.
The Israeli attack comes amid rising tensions with Turkey. Hebrew-language reports revealed that the strikes aim to warn Ankara against establishing military bases inside Syrian territory, particularly at the T4 Airbase, which the occupation considers a sensitive point in the regional power equation.
Hebrew media indicated that Israel is deeply concerned about the possibility of Turkey deploying drones and air defense systems inside Syria, which could restrict the movement of the Israeli Air Force and limit its ability to carry out naval and aerial operations against Iranian or Hezbollah targets inside Syria.
Israel Warns of “Inevitable” Clash with Turkey over Syrian Air Defense Deployment
In the same context, Hebrew media quoted Israeli officials saying that “any attempt by Turkey to deploy an air defense system in Damascus or at the T4 Airbase will be met with a harsh response,” warning that a military clash with Ankara has become “inevitable” if Turkey continues its interventions in such a blatant and direct manner.
This escalation coincides with what Israeli reports described as a “provocation” from the new Syrian president, Ahmad Al-Sharaa, following his release of several Hamas and Islamic Jihad leaders who had been imprisoned during the reign of former President Bashar al-Assad.
In the city of Nawa in Daraa Province, public unrest broke out following the airstrikes, with calls in the town to take up arms and respond to the aggression, reflecting a state of public fury.
Strangely, neither Damascus nor Ankara had issued any official statement at the time of writing, adding to the ambiguity of the situation and raising questions about Turkey’s readiness for direct confrontation with Israel on Syrian soil.
