Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun Seeks Stronger State-to-State Ties with Iran
During talks with Iran’s FM Abbas Araghchi, Aoun emphasizes dialogue, reconstruction, and sovereignty.
Watan-Lebanese President Joseph Aoun affirmed on Tuesday that “Lebanon seeks to strengthen state-to-state relations with Iran.”
According to the National News Agency, Aoun made the statement while receiving Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, noting that “internal dialogue is the gateway to resolving all disputed issues, as is inter-state dialogue free from violence.”
The president emphasized that “rebuilding what was destroyed by the Israeli war on Lebanon is among our top priorities, and we are working on this with the government in cooperation with brotherly and friendly countries, and in accordance with applicable laws.”
For his part, Foreign Minister Araghchi reaffirmed Iran’s support for Lebanon’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, as well as the efforts being made to end Israeli occupation.
Araghchi stated that Iran’s support for Lebanon is based on the “strong bilateral relationship and the principle of non-interference in domestic politics.” He also expressed Iran’s backing of national dialogue among Lebanon’s sects, groups, and political movements.
Araghchi arrived in Beirut from Egypt on an official visit to hold talks with senior Lebanese officials.
