President Trump Reaffirms Gaza Relocation Plan for the Fifth Time Amid International Opposition

Despite Rejections from Egypt and Jordan, Trump Insists on Displacement Strategy; Announces New Tariffs on Key Imports.

Watan-President Donald Trump has, for the fourth time in less than a week, reiterated his plan to relocate residents from the Gaza Strip to Egypt and Jordan, emphasizing that both countries will accept this proposal.

In response to a question about Egypt and Jordan’s refusal to accept Gaza residents, Trump stated in a meeting with journalists at the White House on Friday, “They will accept, and Egypt will accept. I heard from someone that they wouldn’t do it, but they will. I’m confident they will.” Trump hinted twice that America has assisted Jordan and Egypt, and that they will accept residents from Gaza.

It’s noteworthy that the United States provides military and economic aid to Egypt, within the framework of the Camp David peace agreement with Israel, amounting to up to $2.1 billion annually, part of which is linked to progress in human rights issues. Washington also offers military and economic assistance to Jordan of about $1.4 billion annually.

The U.S. President’s statements began last Sunday when he said he spoke to Jordan’s King Abdullah II to accept Gaza residents and that he would speak to the Egyptian president. The following evening, he told journalists aboard Air Force One that he had spoken with President Sisi, saying, “I think he will accept; we have helped them a lot, and I’m sure they will help us.” Trump reiterated on Thursday that the United States has previously assisted both countries and that they will accept residents from Gaza, before reaffirming on Friday his confidence that they will comply.

On Tuesday, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi responded to Trump’s statements, asserting that the displacement or relocation of the Palestinian people is “an injustice we cannot participate in.” Meanwhile, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi stated last Monday that Jordan’s position on the displacement of Palestinians is “firm, unchanging, and essential for achieving the stability and peace we all desire.

” He added that stabilizing Palestinians on their land is a consistent Jordanian stance that has not and will not change. Nevertheless, Trump reiterated on two different days that Egypt and Jordan will accept the plan.

In a different context, Trump confirmed that the United States will reclaim the Panama Canal and announced that he will impose tariffs on semiconductor chips, oil, gas, steel, aluminum, and copper, stating that these tariffs will take effect by February 18.

He added that the United States will impose tariffs on the European Union, noting that these tariffs may cause short-term disruptions, but he expressed confidence that citizens will understand this initially.
