Watan-The Iraqi Salwan Mumika, who burned the Noble Qur’an multiple times in the Swedish capital Stockholm, has returned to the spotlight once again in the past hours.
Mumika stated that he left for Norway to apply for asylum there after a judicial decision upheld his deportation from Sweden.
He added that he left Sweden after the immigration court in the country upheld the authorities’ deportation decision, and went to Norway to apply for asylum, according to “Fox News”.
Deportation Decision for the Quran Burner
The spokesperson for the Swedish Migration Agency, Jesper Tengroth, had stated in late October last year that Mumika had a work and residence permit until April 16, 2024.
He added that after that date, no residence permit would be issued to Mumika, and he would be deported from the country.
Quran Burner Objects to Decision
Meanwhile, Mumika objected to the decision and appealed to the Immigration Court, which in turn upheld the deportation decision on February 7 last year.
Burning of the Noble Qur’an
Mumika had burned a copy of the Noble Qur’an under police protection on June 28, 2023, followed by similar incidents later on.
Salwan Mumika burned the Qur’an in June 2023. During that time, Sweden witnessed repeated incidents of disrespect towards the Qur’an in front of mosques and embassies of Islamic countries.
This sparked widespread anger in the Islamic world and led some capitals to summon Swedish diplomats to officially register their objections.
