Watan-An Israeli general proposed that there be temporary Egyptian control over the Gaza Strip in exchange for what he termed “generous incentives” to rescue Egypt from the deep economic crisis it is suffering from.
Israeli General Moshe Elad wrote in an article published by the Hebrew newspaper “Maariv”: “We must exploit the economic crisis in Egypt and offer it control over Gaza for a limited period in exchange for a generous incentive.”
He added that Egypt is facing a severe and ongoing economic crisis, so this crisis should be exploited and linked to the Gaza issue.
The Israeli general explained that it is not unlikely that incentives worth hundreds of millions of dollars could push Egypt to take on the Gaza challenge and secure it until it is handed over to the improved Palestinian authority.
He considered that this plan should be carefully considered, with Egypt playing a double game, especially since it continues to warn against military operations in Rafah and cries for help, fearing an influx of Gazans into northern Sinai.
Egyptian-Israeli coordination
He pointed out that Cairo is working in full cooperation with Israel and strongly maintains security coordination with it.
He continued: “Sisi flexes his muscles, but he remembers well the assistance Israel provided to him in his war against the Islamic State organization in the Sinai Peninsula.”
The Israeli general explained that stabilizing Sinai could allow Egypt to transfer this experience to the Gaza Strip.
He pointed out that Egypt is eager for an economic lifeline, and the timing is right to give Egyptians what they need.
He continued, saying: “The grant must be unprecedented in its generosity, as well as a guarantee that no Palestinian from Gaza will move to Sinai, and the plan must be supported by Tel Aviv and the international community.”
Flooding Egypt with billions
It is worth mentioning that in the recent period, Egypt has been flooded with billions of dollars, whether from the International Monetary Fund, the European Union, or the World Bank.
In this context, former
Tunisian Foreign Minister Rafik Abdessalem raised questions about the secret behind what he described as the generous financial aid provided by the West to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, after years of describing him as a dictator.
Abdessalem said in a post on his “X” account: “What is the hidden secret behind this generous financial aid from all Western capitals to the Egyptian ruler, after they shut off the tap on him for a long time and described him as a dictator? Has he now become a civil and democratic ruler?”
He continued: “Are these grants the price for suffocating Gaza, closing the crossings, and implementing the required recipe more diligently than expected?”
Abdessalem’s comments came after the European Union announced a massive grant to Egypt as part of a strategic partnership with Egypt.
In addition to Cairo obtaining an $8 billion loan, although it had difficulty obtaining it from the International Monetary Fund before the war on Gaza, due to many conditions it did not meet.
