Watan-Russian scientists at the “Omsk” State Medical University, who have been working in the field of dental prevention for more than 40 years, have been able to innovate a gel-based solution to prevent tooth decay.
According to the university’s website, clinical trials have demonstrated its effectiveness not only in combating tooth decay but also in enamel sensitivity.
Some individuals suffer from tooth decay, a complex pathological process affecting hard tissues due to the complex interaction of unfavorable external and internal factors.
In the initial stage of decay, there’s a focal demineralization of the inorganic part of the enamel, followed by the destruction of its organic matrix, leading to the breakdown of hard dental tissues. If left untreated, serious complications can arise.
The Impact of Gel Formulations on Fighting Tooth Decay
The gel formulations developed by scientists at Omsk State Medical University aim to prevent this disease and halt initial decay. Currently, there are 10 gel formulations, with plans to patent an eleventh dental medication.

Galina Skripkina, head of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at Omsk State Medical University, emphasized that these innovative dental medications are not ordinary; they are medical formulations for a therapeutic cycle prescribed based on the dental condition.
The innovation includes a three-component gel with fluoride, calcium, and phosphorus for home use and professional application in dental chairs.
The treatment regimen occurs twice a year, with a course duration ranging from 2 to 3 weeks. The extended effect of the developed gel materials distinguishes them from preventive drugs produced by other manufacturers.
Scientists at Omsk State Medical University state that these gel materials not only have a preventive effect but also a therapeutic one. They eliminate decay at the stage of removing focal mineralization of dental enamel, alleviate symptoms of enamel sensitivity to chemicals, mechanical effects, temperature, and restore enamel gloss after whitening sessions. The efficacy of these medications has been demonstrated both in laboratory and clinical settings.
